- Senator Natasha Akpoti has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting a petition from the National Assembly to recall her process.
- INEC rejected the recall process by the National Assembly, citing the petition’s inability to comply with constitutional requirements in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
Senator Natasha Akpoti has expressed her appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after it rejected a petition aimed at initiating her recall from the National Assembly.
The electoral body dismissed the petition on the grounds that it did not meet the legal criteria outlined in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). This was disclosed in a statement shared via INEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the post, “The petition for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).”
Reacting to the development, Senator Natasha hailed INEC’s position, describing it as a bold move to defend justice and constitutional integrity. She further praised the commission for resisting external pressure from what she called “undemocratic elements,” affirming that their decision reinforces faith in democratic institutions.
In a statement released, Natasha Akpoti said;
“God has put to shame anti-democratic forces plotting my recall from the Senate, including one of the most wanted persons by the EFCC, former governor Yahaya Bello.”
“Please bear it in mind that your days are numbered in politics because the new era has come when people will no longer reckon or identify with evil politicians whose trademark is not more than violence, rigging,and corruption.”
