Popular social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has responded to recent statements made by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede, during a televised interview.
In the interview, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of fair hearing and cautioned against condemning ex-militant leader Oweizidei Thomas Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, over allegations related to the defacing of naira notes.
Reacting via a video post, VDM recounted a troubling encounter with EFCC officers. He alleged that during a visit to a bank, EFCC personnel pointed a firearm at his mother and threatened to shoot his friend in the leg. According to him, the agency seized his phone and car under coercive circumstances, and he has yet to recover them—despite no formal charges being filed.
He criticized the EFCC’s public stance on fair treatment, saying it stands in stark contrast to how he was allegedly handled. VDM also speculated that his confiscated phone may have been the true reason for the agency’s actions.
Declaring Tompolo as a friend, VDM warned the EFCC against detaining him. He threatened to publicly expose and embarrass the agency if anything adverse happened to Tompolo.
Further questioning the agency’s consistency, VDM mentioned the son of prominent businessman Chief Okoya, suggesting that the EFCC failed to scrutinize him in a similar case. He also pointed fingers at CBEX scammers, criticizing the agency for not bringing them to justice and arguing that fixating on naira mutilation could drain its resources.
VDM claimed Tompolo was not seen spraying money in the controversial video and challenged the EFCC to re-examine the footage.
In another part of his statement, VDM disclosed plans to submit a petition to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) regarding an issue in an Anambra market. He urged the agency to act once the complaint is officially received.
This development adds to VDM’s ongoing clash with the EFCC. Just weeks earlier, he was reportedly held in an undisclosed location by the commission, leading his associate, Dkokopee, to raise public concern. He was later released after spending several days in custody.
