- Saida Boj is under criticism for her comments on the arrest of VeryDarkMan by Nigeria’s EFCC.
- Many celebrities and online figures are advocating for due process and transparency regarding VDM’s detention.
- Saida Boj has chosen not to support these advocacy efforts.
Popular influencer Saida Boj is facing renewed criticism following comments she made in reaction to the arrest of vocal activist and internet personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As several celebrities and online figures voiced concerns about due process and transparency in VDM’s detention, Saida took a different stance. She expressed that she would not join in the advocacy efforts, citing her personal experience with VDM’s past behavior.
In a video she later deleted, Saida explained that she had been urged by many to speak up about VDM’s situation but declined. She justified her decision by referencing an earlier time when she defended him publicly and felt unacknowledged. “Ungrateful,” she said of VDM, stating she had no obligation to speak out again.
Her position triggered a wave of criticism, most notably from a Nigerian woman whose video response quickly went viral before being removed from various platforms. In her emphatic reaction, the woman reproached Saida for centering herself in a broader issue that, according to her, was about injustice and not personal recognition.
“Saida Boj, take the back seat. In fact, keep moving… go outside. Stay by the window because I need to educate you,” she began.
The woman stressed that public concern for VDM’s case stemmed from principle, not personal attachment. “It is about police brutality. It’s about people weaponizing the police force and the EFCC against Nigerian citizens,” she emphasized.
She also pointed to VDM’s previous efforts in rescuing trafficked underage girls from other African nations, a contribution she felt had gone overlooked by Saida.
“Voice of the girl child? You don’t even know what that means,” she said, calling into question Saida’s credibility as a women’s advocate.
The woman didn’t hold back in criticizing what she perceived as Saida’s ego and entitlement. “What is this entitlement mentality I’m seeing all over social media? You thinking your voice alone can make an impact is laughable.”
She ended her video by dismissing Saida’s input entirely: “Remain outside while this is over. If you want education, I’ll educate you. More wisdom.”
The public exchange has intensified ongoing conversations online about the misuse of power by Nigerian authorities and the role of influencers in speaking out against injustice. While some defend Saida’s choice not to engage, others argue that her remarks came at a time when collective voices are needed most.
As of the latest update, VeryDarkMan remains in EFCC custody, with increasing calls for fair treatment and legal transparency.
