Referee David Coote sacked by PGMOL after damaging videos, messages leak

Premier League referee David Coote has been sacked by the PGMOL following incriminating videos and messages.

The 42-year-old was initially suspended after footage surfaced online showing him making explicit remarks about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.

Coote referred to Klopp in derogatory terms, which caused significant backlash.

Further controversy arose when additional videos emerged, including one showing him allegedly using a white substance during the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The allegations extended to match-related incidents, with Coote accused of joking about issuing a yellow card during a match between Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

He also reportedly discussed hosting a “drugs party” during a Carabao Cup match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

PGMOL confirmed the termination of Coote’s employment, stating:”David Coote’s actions were found to be in serious breach of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable.”

Despite the dismissal, PGMOL emphasized its commitment to supporting Coote’s welfare, including right to appeal the decision.

However, Coote, who officiated 112 Premier League matches since 2018, has refuted allegations of compromising match integrity.

He insists his personal issues never influenced his professional decisions.
