Her sudden death was confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday night by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, as reported by Vanguard.
“Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift, and despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre,” the statement read.
Adigun described her as a passionate and versatile journalist, noting that she had once served as Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and was an active member of the current Wale Olanrewaju-led NUJ executive.
“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community,” he said.

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) also expressed shock at her passing. In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Mrs. Sekinat Salam, the group described Agbakaizu as a seasoned media professional whose leadership and experience were invaluable.
“As a dedicated member of NUJ and NAWOJ, her compassion, commitment, and passion for journalism will always be remembered,” Salam stated. “Though she passed on at 52, her service to God and humanity will keep her memory alive. We pray for God’s peace upon her soul and strength for the family she left behind.”
