Nigerians Abroad Dance to Eedris Abdulkareem’s Banned Song –

  • Nigerians abroad have sparked online reactions after a video of them jamming to Eedris Abdulkarem’s Tell Your Papa, which was banned by NBC.
  • The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has officially banned Nigerian radio and television stations from airing rapper Eedris Abdulkareem’s “Tell Your Papa” due to broadcast decency standards violations.

A video of some Nigerians living abroad dancing to Eedris Abdulkareem’s song “Tell Your Papa” has surfaced online, sparking reactions across social media. The song, recently banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), appears to have gained even more popularity despite the restriction.

The NBC had earlier declared “Tell Your Papa” unfit for airplay, classifying it under the “Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB)” category. In a circular dated April 9, 2025, and signed by Susan Obi, the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, the commission stated that the track violated section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits content deemed indecent or offensive from being aired on public platforms.

However, the ban doesn’t seem to apply outside Nigeria’s borders. In the now-viral video, a group of Nigerians abroad can be seen dancing enthusiastically to the track, singing along and enjoying the music during what appears to be a casual gathering.

The incident has stirred conversations online, with many praising the diaspora community for expressing their freedom to enjoy the song, while others question the effectiveness and purpose of the ban in the digital age.

Despite the NBC’s stance, the popularity of “Tell Your Papa” continues to grow, with many seeing it as a form of protest or expression against censorship.
