- A Nigerian lady has requested her landlord to increase her rent from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million despite the country’s challenging economic situation.
- The information was disclosed in a post on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to express her frustration over a sharp increase in her rent, rising from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million, despite the prevailing economic difficulties in the country.
Sharing her ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), she criticized her landlord for the hike, describing it as insensitive given the current economic strain many Nigerians are facing.
She wrote: “They’ve increased my rent today. I just got back from the market and found out my rent has been raised from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million.”
“Is that not too much? Nigeria is already hard enough, people are just trying to survive. What is happening, landlord? Nobody is considering anybody; everybody wants to kill everybody.”
She added that the rent increment letter stated her previous rent as ₦1 million, even though she had been paying ₦1.2 million consistently for the past two years.
“Is it a mistake? I’ve been paying ₦1.2 million, which is an extra ₦600,000. Now it’s going up to ₦1.8 million?” she questioned.
