- Miley Cyrus reflects on the ‘dark time’ after losing her $2.525M Malibu house in the 2018 Woolsey Fire, one month before their wedding.
Miley Cyrus recently opened up about the challenging period when she and her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, lost their Malibu home to the 2018 Woolsey Fire—just one month before they tied the knot. Speaking at her Something Beautiful event in Manhattan, the 32-year-old pop star reflected on how the disaster, though painful, ultimately became a significant turning point in her life.
According to Cyrus, losing her $2.525 million, four-bedroom house turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to her. She expressed that the experience allowed her to rebuild her life with intention, choosing each new piece and relationship purposefully.
“When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life, actually,” she said. “Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m gonna collect or also just about the people in my life.‘And I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude.”
Reflecting on the painful experience, Cyrus shared a piece of advice she would give to her younger self: “I think what I would have told my younger self is to appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light.”
Despite the emotional hardships, Miley eventually finalized her divorce from Liam in 2020, following an on-and-off 10-year relationship. The two first met while filming The Last Song in 2009, got engaged in 2012, split in 2013, and rekindled their romance in 2016. They married in December 2018 but separated for good just eight months later.
