Manchester United are reportedly nearing the final stages of a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Despite public claims that the club’s focus remains on Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham, ESPN reports that United are prepared to trigger the £62.5 million release clause in the Brazilian forward’s contract.
The 25-year-old is said to be open to the move to Old Trafford, regardless of whether United qualify for the Champions League next season.
Manager Ruben Amorim is keen on the transfer and sees Cunha as an ideal fit for one of the No. 10 roles in his preferred 3-4-3 formation.
Cunha has emerged as a top attacking target, with United also considering Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) and Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford).
However, insiders indicate that Cunha is the priority signing.
United are confident of completing the transfer without complications and believe the player will agree to terms within the club’s revised wage structure, as executives aim to streamline the payroll heading into next season.
