Liverpool close in on Frimpong as first summer signing

Liverpool are on the verge of completing their first transfer with Dutch wing-back Jeremie Frimpong set to undergo a medical this week.

The 24-year-old will arrive from Bayer Leverkusen after the Reds trigger his £30 million release clause.

Frimpong is expected to provide direct competition for Conor Bradley, who recently committed his future to the club with a four-year contract.

His arrival will help fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose free transfer to Real Madrid is reportedly imminent.

The former Manchester City youth product, who also featured for Celtic before moving to the Bundesliga, qualifies as a home-grown player in England.

His numbers reflect his attacking threat – 30 goals and 44 assists in 190 appearances for Leverkusen.

He played a vital role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double and helped the team reach the Europa League final.
