  • Emem Ette, a lawyer from Nigeria and the Director of the Gender-Based Violence Response Department in Akwa Ibom State’s Ministry of Justice, has opened up about her experience of losing her husband at 36 and finding love again at 45, all while caring for her six children.

A Nigerian attorney and Director of the Gender-Based Violence Response Department in Akwa Ibom State’s Ministry of Justice, Emem Ette, has shared that she became a widow at the age of 36 and remarried at 45, raising her six children throughout this journey.

She expressed her thoughts in a Facebook post on April 17, 2025, in response to backlash against a young widow looking to remarry.

Mrs. Ette also advocated for young widows to consider the option of remarriage.

“I read in a group where a young widow asked if she could remarry and women were bashing and telling her ‘to rest’. Da! My own take is; my dear young widow, if you see husband, by all means remarry o! I was widowed at 38. I remarried at 45 with my 6 children! I have a beautiful marriage and the best of husbands. One God has used to console, comfort and to hold me. (That hold eh! Very important!) Don’t listen to people who haven’t lost a husband before. If you decide to stay widowed, it is still okay because I know, God do care for widows. Anywhere you see Gabriel Ette give him a thumbs up. Agwo Annang ade agwo uko! Sai!,” she wrote.
