A temporary cleaner at Padel House, a popular sports facility in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, has landed in serious trouble after stealing a Samsung smartphone reportedly valued at ₦700,000.

According to reports, the theft occurred shortly after the cleaner resumed work at the center. Rather than carrying out his duties, he allegedly stole the phone and quickly passed it to an accomplice waiting outside, in a bid to cover his tracks.

Initially, suspicion fell on a security guard on duty at the time, as circumstantial evidence seemed to point in his direction. However, an internal investigation was swiftly launched to uncover the truth.

The probe soon revealed that the cleaner was the real culprit. When confronted, he confessed to the crime, leading to the recovery of the stolen device and clearing the innocent guard’s name.

The incident has since gone viral, drawing widespread criticism and outrage on social media, particularly over the attempt to frame an innocent worker.
