Actor Chimezie Imo has shared insights into his experiences within the Nollywood industry, highlighting his aspiration to collaborate with renowned actors Genevieve Nnaji and Gabriel Afolayan.
Chimezie made these remarks during an exclusive interview with QEDNG at the premiere of Toyin Abraham’s film, Alakada: Bad and Boujee, which took place on Sunday at Imax Cinema in Lagos.
Reflecting on his journey into prominent blockbuster films, the star of Breath of Life stated, “I have just been working, and I love to work. So yea.”
Discussing his critically acclaimed portrayal of Elijah in Breath of Life, Chimezie acknowledged the pivotal role of director BB Sasore in shaping his character.
“For me, I always say the director is the captain of the ship, and if he doesn’t have the right head on his shoulder, then the entire ship will sink. I’m so glad we had one of the best directors I’ve worked with in Nollywood, BB Sasore.
“We had conversations almost every day. I would tell him what I thought; he would tell me what he thought and we would argue until we started to know who Elijah was. My job was just to be him and not act like him,” he said.
When inquired about the roles he aspires to undertake, Chimezie expressed a keen interest in portraying unconventional characters.
“I would like to play a superhero. I’ve always imagined what it would be like to have a superhero in Nigeria. I would also like to be mute in a film. I would like to see how that plays out,” the 32-year-old added.
Regarding his dream collaborators, Chimezie earnestly reached out to Genevieve Nnaji.
“Genevieve Nnaji, pick my call, pick my call. I would like to work with her; I think she is our treasure. There are tons of them. I would like to do something more with Gabriel Afolayan. I think he is fantastic, one of my favourite actors.”
The premiere of the star-studded film also featured notable attendees such as Iyabo Ojo, Bimbo Ademoye, Rotimi Salami, Kie Kie, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Ajeyemi Kolawole, Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola, Odunlade Adekola, and Moyo Lawal.
