Nigerian woman, Blessing Jacob, is in deep sorrow after losing her son, AbdulHafiz Onimisi Abubakar, who drowned in a soakaway.

On December 18, 2024, she shared her pain on Facebook, explaining how her toddler fell into the pit while playing. Her husband tried to save him by jumping in, but it was too late.

They rushed him to two hospitals, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

“Black Monday! Monday 16th of December, will forever be a bitter date for me and my family,” she wrote.

5pm 16th December, my husband came back from work, Hafiz as usual, ran to welcome daddy.

Few minutes, after then, he starting crying for food. His father took him to a provision shop, and bought golden morn, and milk.

I made, it and fed my baby, after drinking water, he jumped down from where he ate, and started playing around in the compound

I normally lock my burglary proof with it’s hook, and hang a padlock on it (not locked)

I didn’t know how he managed to pull through, and jumped out, with full energy, laughing and running around as a healthy and strong guy he is, my other child went out to quickly bring him inside, cause I don’t allow them outside.

He ran to grab Hafiz, but Hafiz kept running, he ran, and fell into an open latrine (soakaway) very deep , and filled with water.

My son ran back to tell me, and I ran out shouting like a mad woman

Before help could come, my baby already drown. His dad dragged him out, we rushed him to 2 different hospital, but both confirmed my son dead! Yeeeeee!

I have buried my son, with my hands! Oh! Oh!

I don’t know how best I can be consoled and comforted. Oh!

The place soak away is, we don’t go there o… My children hardly play outside, except we’re all going out.

Hafiz was not use to the environment. Oh!

I’ve lost him to the cold hands of death.

But, who am I to question what God has ordained?

Till we meet to part no more, AbdulHafiz Onimisi Abubakar.
