- Deji Adeyanju has accused GTBank of facilitating the arrest of VeryDarkMan.
- VDM is currently in custody of the EFCC after being arrested at a GTBank branch in Abuja.
- The arrest occurred when VDM accompanied his mother to report unauthorized deductions from her bank account, which were incorrectly labeled as “loan repayments.”
Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) of aiding in the arrest of social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement issued on Friday, Adeyanju revealed that VDM is currently in EFCC custody after being arrested at a GTBank branch in Abuja. According to Adeyanju, VDM was detained after he visited the bank with his mother to report unauthorized deductions from her account, which were labeled as “loan repayments,” despite her never having applied for any loan.
Adeyanju further alleged that GTBank staff intentionally locked VDM inside the bank’s exit door for more than five minutes, giving EFCC officials enough time to arrest him and his friend, identified as C Park.
“Our lawyers, led by the Head of our firm, @Marvin_Omorogbe, just met VDM’s friend in EFCC custody. VDM refused to come out of the cell; he said he won’t see anyone,” Adeyanju stated.
He condemned the arrest and described the involvement of GTBank as inhumane and unlawful.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from either GTBank or the EFCC regarding the allegations.
