Governor Umo Blames Political Opponents for Viral Video Alleging Involvement in Wife’s Death

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has denounced the re-emergence of a viral video featuring his daughter, Jane Eddidiong Ufot, characterizing it as a politically driven effort to damage his reputation.

The video, which was initially filmed last year shortly after the death of the governor’s wife, depicts Jane emotionally accusing her father of having a part in her mother’s demise.

In one clip, she pleads, “Daddy, I’m sending this to you alone. Please, let’s talk before this destr+ys everything. I am not a s@crifice. Mummy was—I’m not.”

In another, she speaks to her own daughter, prompting her to say: “Tell Grandpa, ‘Do you want them to k+ll us? Do you want us to d+e like my baby brother d+ed?’”

In response to the videos, Governor Eno alleged that political adversaries were behind their reemergence, aiming to divert attention from the celebrations of his administration’s second anniversary and to tarnish his reputation.

“The video was recorded in the heat of grief, shortly after my wife d+ed,”

“My daughter is here with her husband, and we remain a united family. Those behind this are simply trying to explo+t our p@in for political gain.”

“I’ve lost my wife already. May her soul rest in peace. Please stop bringing back sad memories.”

“We are in political season, so these distractions are expected. But I remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the good people of Akwa Ibom,” he said.
