The popular Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kweku Frimpong, also known professionally as Black Sheriff by his stage name, is a popular Ghanaian musician and performer from Konongo, Ghana. Sherif is well known in Nigeria for his song Second Sermon featuring Burna Boy, and his new single, Kwaku The Traveller is currently ranked number one on the Nigerian Apple Music charts.

What is Black Sherif Age?
Mohammed Ismail Sherif, sometimes known as “Black Sherif,” was born on January 9, 2002. He was raised in Ghana, namely the Ashanti region.
Unlike the other children, Black Sherif’s parents resided abroad. So he was left to live with his aunt and other family members.
His upbringing was quite different from that of the average child. Black Sherif was in charge of maintaining the ranch. This ranch was home to different sheep, cattle, and goats. He was a herdsman at a young age.
Black Sherif Education
Blacko began his studies at Konongo Zongo Islamic School. This was an Islamic school that instilled Sherif with knowledge of the Qur’an.
He attended secondary school at the Pinamang Educational Complex. Then he finished Senior Secondary School at Kumasi Academy in Ghana.
At Kumasi Academy, he developed a passion for music. His love for music grew even stronger after he enrolled at the University of Ghana in 2022.
Career and Achievements
Black Sherif’s afrobeats sound combines elements of highlife, reggae, hip-hop, and UK drill. His musical influences include rappers Kanye West, Travis Scott, Saint Jhn, Dave, Stormzy, and J Hus, as well as Ghanaian singers Mugeez and Sarkodie.
His Afrobeats music has always been about narrative, with him singing or rapping about his society, life, and other contemporary topics. He is widely considered one of Ghana’s most successful Grime and Trap musicians.
Black Sherif began performing as a dancehall artist while still in secondary school, following in the footsteps of Ghanaian music legends like Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. He became interested in Afrobeat music and began singing after being inspired while listening to it on the radio.
The rapper immediately rose to notoriety after delivering a freestyle on “Road To The Tape- 1st Sermon.” Following the freestyle’s viral success, Sarkodie, Hammer, and other notable Ghanaian singers and performers took note. Days after the freestyle went viral, Black Sherif was seen with Sarkodie, the head of Sarkcess Music.
He began his career in 2019 with the release of his song “Cry For Me,” which flopped after his successful freestyle. His debut single, “Money,” was released in May 2020. Sherif officially hit the spotlight with the release of the song “First Sermon” in May 2021. The song’s follow-up, “Second Sermon,” was released in July and features Burna Boy, another African musician. This improved his visibility in the Nigerian music scene and around the world.
Poco Lee exposed Burna Boy to Black Sherif’s music. Poco Lee, a dancer, is very familiar with Black Sherif. He credits Burna Boy’s ingenuity for his ability to work with him.
His biggest breakthrough came with his track “Kwaku The Traveller,” which was released in March 2022. The song topped the Apple Music charts in Ghana and Nigeria. His debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” was released in October 2022. He then continued to write music.
The album’s excellent reviews earned him three wins at the 2022 Ghana Music Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop Song.
The rapper entertained an excited crowd at Ghana’s 3Music Awards Ceremony in March 2022. He also entertained during the 2021 MTN FA Cup championship game in Ghana. Black Sherif also performed at the 25th anniversary ceremony of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, which was held at the OVO Arena in Wembley, England. Furthermore, in December 2022, black Sherif hosted his debut “Mozama Disco Concert” in Accra.
