Liverpool have reached personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen’s playmaker Florian Wirtz, ahead of a potential record-breaking transfer, Gistreel sport understands.
The 21-year-old Germany international has made clear his preference for a move to Anfield, effectively removing Bayern Munich and Manchester City from contention.
Bayern have accepted defeat after Wirtz reportedly informed them of his intent to join Liverpool, while City have dropped their interest due to the high financial demands, now turning attention to Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
Liverpool have made their intent concrete with a first offer exceeding ÂŁ84 million, though Leverkusen are believed to be holding out for a fee between ÂŁ110 million and ÂŁ125 million.
Formal negotiations between the clubs are expected to take place on Monday.
TalkSPORT reports that Wirtz’s camp, including his parents, recently visited the UK to lay the groundwork for the move, which would see him become one of Liverpool’s most expensive signings ever.
