Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold’s match-winning cameo against Leicester City, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged Arne Slot to drop the right-back for the rest of the season.
Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, acknowledged Trent’s technical brilliance and transformative role in redefining the full-back position but insisted Liverpool must prioritize the long-term.
With Alexander-Arnold widely tipped to join Real Madrid this summer, Carragher says the club must pivot to succession planning, starting with 20-year-old Conor Bradley.
“If Trent hasn’t committed to the manager for next season, he shouldn’t be starting games,” Carragher stated, bluntly.
“This isn’t about giving him a send-off. It’s about building the team that’s going to compete after he’s gone.”
Carragher emphasized that Bradley should now be given maximum exposure to determine whether he can be Liverpool’s starting right-back next season or if a new signing will be required.
Despite the internal statement, Alexander-Arnold’s strike secured a vital 1-0 win that leaves Liverpool needing just one more victory to secure the Premier League title.
With five games remaining, they are 13 points clear and could mathematically seal the trophy if Arsenal falter midweek.
