A Federal High Court in Lagos has handed a death sentence to BRT driver Andrew Ominikoron for the murder of 22-year-old fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola.

Bamise’s tragic story made national headlines in 2022 after she went missing following her decision to board a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle. Her body was later discovered, sparking outrage and demands for justice across the country.

The trial, which began shortly after her death, concluded with the court ruling that the prosecution had established Ominikoron’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice Serifat Sonaike, who presided over the case, confirmed the death sentence by hanging as the appropriate punishment for the crime.

The ruling has been widely welcomed online, with many Nigerians expressing a sense of closure and relief that justice was finally delivered in the high-profile case.

In other news, British-Nigerian nursing student and social media personality, Tamilore Odunsi, widely known on TikTok as “Tami Dollars,” has been killed in a shocking incident at her apartment in Houston, Texas — just two weeks before she was to graduate with a nursing degree.

The 23-year-old was found dead in her kitchen with multiple stab wounds after police carried out a welfare check prompted by a report of blood on her apartment’s patio. Upon entry, officers discovered a disturbing scene, including a critically injured man in a separate room. He is believed to have been someone she had recently met.

Tamilore had relocated from London to the U.S. in 2022 to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Just days before her tragic death, she shared a joyful TikTok post, expressing excitement about her upcoming graduation: “I’m readdyyyyy… BSN grad in 2 weeks. Summer is 14 days away.”

Her sudden death has left her family, friends, and over 30,000 followers in mourning. A GoFundMe campaign set up to repatriate her remains and support funeral arrangements has garnered more than £29,000.

Her sister Georgina wrote: “Tami was light, love, and ambition personified. Her life was cruelly taken just before she achieved one of her biggest dreams.”

Her brother Manny added a touching tribute: “Our TikTok star. My creative genius. My baby sister. Arriving in America without her at the airport will hurt in ways I can’t explain.”

As of now, authorities have not released further information about the man found at the scene or the possible motive behind the attack.
