Arne Slot faces challenge with Darwin Nunez after Liverpool reject Al Nassr’s bid

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly trying to mend his relationship with striker Darwin Nunez after the club turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

According to SunSport, the Saudi club had their sights set on Nunez before concluding a £64 million transfer for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

But Liverpool was firm in their stance, declaring Nunez was not for sale “at any price.”

Nunez, who has found himself on the fringes of Liverpool’s starting lineup this season, was keen on engaging in talks with Al Nassr.

Earlier in the January transfer window, Liverpool had already rejected an initial £70 million bid from another Saudi club for the Uruguayan forward, who was signed from Benfica for £85 million in 2022.

Despite being omitted from the squad for Liverpool’s recent Champions League loss to PSV due to a minor illness, Nunez has shown he can still impact games significantly.

This was evident when he scored a crucial brace off the bench in a 2-0 win against Brentford two weeks ago, which has somewhat quelled the speculation about his immediate future at Anfield.

However, his long-term prospects with the club are expected to be a topic for discussion come summer.
