Real Betis stun Barcelona with late equalizer in 2-2 draw

Barcelona have suffered another setback in La Liga as they were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin.

The late equalizer denied Hansi Flick’s men consecutive league victories.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 40th minute, capping off a brilliant team move with a finish from Jules Kounde’s low cross.

Barcelona appeared to be in control during the first half but faced tough encounter after the break.

Betis drew level just before the hour mark when Frenkie de Jong’s foul on Vitor Roque in the box allowed Giovani Lo Celso to convert from the penalty spot.

Barcelona seemed to have sealed the win in the 82nd minute when Ferran Torres latched onto a sublime through ball from Lamine Yamal to score.

Initially ruled offside, the goal was awarded after a VAR review.

However, Real Betis refused to back down. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Assane Diao capitalized on a defensive lapse to score a dramatic equalizer, leaving Barcelona with more frustration.

This draw marks Barcelona’s fourth slip in their last five La Liga outings.

The dropped points could prove costly, especially with Real Madrid having a chance to narrow the gap at the top of the table to just two points if they beat Girona later this evening.
