Timini Egbuson reacts to Biodun Stephen’s controversial “YouTube actor” comment

  • Nollywood bad boy Timini Egbuson criticized Biodun Stephen for labeling certain actors in a post, implying segregation in the Nigerian movie industry.
  • She urged YouTube users to discover new talents, citing a preference for A-list actors, leading to lower views for films featuring new faces.

Timini Egbuson, often referred to as the “Nollywood bad boy,” recently engaged in a discussion with veteran actress and producer Biodun Stephen regarding her comments that suggested a division among actors in the Nigerian film industry.

Previously, Biodun had taken to Instagram to request assistance from YouTube users in identifying emerging talents. She pointed out that the preference for A-list actors among fans often leads to diminished viewership for films featuring lesser-known performers.

Biodun wrote: “YOUTUBE audience, I salute you. Can I beg you for something this new year? Producers need to help new actors and YouTube is the one place we are able to introduce new faces.

“We can’t do that if you only clock on the films that carry your favs. You need to add to your favs and the only way is if you give that film a chance. 2025, help us discover new stars.”

Biodun further extended a proposition to her audience: “So here is my appeal. Trust that I’ll bring solid actors who will act their pants off. Trust that the story will STORY.

“Can I trust that you will watch it?? Very easy to say yes, but how can I get commitment from you. I want to build new stars but I need you to trust me. Youtube Audience I salute.”

However, Biodun’s follow-up post ignited controversy when she labeled certain actors as “YouTube actors.”

In another post, she remarked: “YouTube Actors… Please breathe, inhale… exhale… Don’t suffocate us.”

She defended her comments by stating that such expressions are not typical for her, yet the statistics regarding movie releases on YouTube had become increasingly concerning.

Timini Egbuson responded to her post, asserting, “What’s a YouTube actor? An actor is an actor.”

Biodun Stephen’s response to the misunderstood comment

This exchange led to significant reactions from fans and followers, ultimately prompting Biodun to remove the contentious post.

She explained, “I have chosen to take down the post, as the conversation seems to stir in an unintended direction. Bless.”
