Dele Farotimi released from prison


Nigerian human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has been released from prison after meeting his bail conditions.

According to reports, the announcement was made by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

Sowore confirmed that Farotimi has been freed from Ekiti prison and is now en route to his home in Lagos.

He wrote: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”

Farotimi was arrested earlier this month over allegations of defamation against Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Afe Babalola.

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti had recently granted Farotimi bail in the sum of ₦30 million.
