Manchester City drop to sixth after 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa

Aston Villa shined with a 2-1 win over lackluster Manchester City side at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

The first half saw Villa take the lead with a goal from Jhon Duran, setting the tone for what would become a challenging game for the defending champions.

The second goal came in the 65th minute when Morgan Rogers doubled Villa’s lead, exploiting a defensive error from Manchester City.

However, City managed to pull a consolation goal through Phil Foden in added time.

This defeat marks another stumble for Pep Guardiola’s team, who have now lost nine of their last twelve matches across all competitions.

Aston Villa, who recently fell to Chelsea, showed class, courtesy of Unai Emery’s strategy.

The team’s midfield control and effective counter-attacks overwhelmed Manchester City, who failed to create meaningful scoring opportunities from open play.

The loss further distances Manchester City from the league leaders Liverpool.

They now settle for the sixth position, with Villa leapfrogging them in the standings.
