- The Deeper Life Bible Church has expressed concern over the unjustified, targeted demolition of its properties in Lagos State by government agencies.
- The church has accused state authorities of interference, leading to harassment, threats, and restrictions on its worship and community activities, according to its legal counsel, Nojim Tairu & Co.
The Deeper Life Bible Church has expressed serious concern following the demolition of several of its properties by government agencies across Lagos State, describing the actions as unjust, targeted, and deeply troubling.
In a statement released through its legal representatives, Nojim Tairu & Co., the church highlighted what it termed an ongoing pattern of harassment, threats, and interference by some state authorities. These incidents, the church says, have disrupted its worship activities and community services.
The statement detailed recent demolitions of three church facilities: the Chronicle Yaba Church, demolished by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA); the Olorunishola Church, taken down by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA); and the Lawanson Church, reportedly demolished by the Surulere Local Government.
“These actions not only infringe on the rights of our congregation but also raise serious concerns about religious freedom, property rights, and due process in Lagos State,” the church added.
Calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant officials to intervene, the church urged for swift investigations and accountability. It emphasized its long history of peaceful and law-abiding conduct.
“Deeper Life Bible Church has always abided by the law and promoted peace among all communities. These recent developments, however, necessitate urgent attention to prevent further erosion of public trust and religious harmony,” the statement said.
The church also appealed to the public, religious organizations, legal experts, and the global faith community to support its call for fairness and protection of religious liberties.
“We remain committed to our mission of spiritual growth, humanitarian service, and social development. We will not be deterred by these challenges and are prepared to explore all legal avenues to uphold our rights and preserve our sanctuaries,” the statement concluded.
