Justice A. Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, adjourned further proceedings in the N1.38 billion fraud case involving Jude Chigozie Okoye, elder brother and former manager of PSquare’s Paul and Peter Okoye, until October 23.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, is prosecuting Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, on a seven-count charge bordering on money laundering involving over ₦1.38 billion.
“That you, Jude Okoye Chigozie and Northside Music Limited, sometime in 2022, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did directly acquire a landed property known as No 5, Tony Eromosele Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos worth N850,000,000.00 (Eight Hundred and Fifty Million Naira only), which money you knew or reasonably ought to have known form part of proceeds of unlawful act and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 (2) (d) and punishable under Section 18 (3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.”
Jude pleaded not guilty when the charges were first read on February 26, 2025.
During the resumed hearing, the first prosecution witness, Peter Okoye, testified under cross-examination by the defense counsel, Clement Onwuewunor SAN. He told the court that he neither had access to Northside Entertainment’s bank accounts nor signed any cheques during his time with the label.
Peter admitted he received payments from the company’s Ecobank account but clarified that the funds weren’t royalty payments. He claimed the account also received substantial sums from brand endorsements and live performances.
Notably, he revealed that he was unaware of Northside Music Limited—his brother’s company—until late 2022. He also stated he received no earnings from Lex Records during his tenure there.
Following the session, Justice Owoeye adjourned the case to October 23 and November 10, 2025, for the continuation of trial.
