A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Dr. Taiwo Oluwaseyi, has attracted widespread attention online for implementing a creative method to reduce absenteeism and signature forgery among his students—by using group photos as attendance records.

In a video shared on TikTok by Dr. Oluwaseyi, who goes by the handle @taiwo_2222, he explained that students are now required to appear in a group photo taken at the end of each lecture. This image serves as visual proof that they were physically present in class.

The video features a wide shot of the classroom, with students queuing up to be photographed after the lecture. Dr. Oluwaseyi noted that the new system has led to improved student participation, as more students now make the effort to attend.

“No more signature attendance. Signature forging is real. It’s either you show in the class picture or not,” he wrote in the video caption.

He stressed that only students visible in the group photo would be marked present, regardless of whether their names appear on a register.

“If you’re not in the photo, you weren’t in class. That’s the rule,”
