“Nobody Needs 40 Perfumes” – Solomon Buchi Warns Against Materialism

  • Solomon Buchi, a renowned Nigerian writer and life coach, has reacted to a viral video featuring Mr. Macaroni’s popular perfume collection.
  • He recently cautioned against the culture of promoting excessive luxury, which has sparked a reaction from Nigerians.

Popular Nigerian writer and life coach, Solomon Buchi, has joined the online conversation surrounding a viral video of comedian Mr. Macaroni flaunting his luxury perfume collection.

Reacting via his social media page, Buchi criticized the glorification of excessive materialism. He stated that owning 40 different perfumes isn’t admirable, and no man should need that many to smell good.

“This is not cute. We’re promoting a culture of unrealistic materialism. Nobody needs 40 perfumes, 40 sneakers, or 40 shoes — nobody,” Buchi wrote.

Without directly calling out Mr. Macaroni, he expressed concern over how such displays set unhealthy standards, especially for younger audiences who might begin to compare their lives with exaggerated portrayals on social media.

Buchi emphasized the importance of prioritizing needs over wants, adding that refusing to buy luxury items doesn’t equate to being broke — it often reflects wisdom and restraint.

“You’re not broke — you just don’t need what you want to buy. Consumerism is becoming the god of our time, and it’s killing us slowly. You don’t need it. You’re doing well,” he concluded.

His comments have stirred debate online, with many Nigerians reflecting on the pressures of modern consumer culture and the difference between wealth and waste.
