A Nigerian man has sparked outrage on social media after making a shocking anonymous confession that he abandoned his ex-wife in the United States to deal with the consequences of a loan he took out using their house as collateral.
The confession was shared through an anonymous link on X (formerly Twitter) by user @RitableP. According to the post, the man and his wife relocated to the U.S. in 2023. Shortly after their move, he secured a loan using their jointly owned house as collateral.
However, during their divorce, the house was awarded to the wife in the settlement. Unknown to her, the man had already moved the loan funds into offshore accounts before the divorce was finalized.
Now back in Nigeria, the man revealed that he has no plans to repay the loan, knowing fully well that the bank will seize the house by August due to non-payment — effectively leaving his ex-wife homeless.
His full statement reads: “Madam Rita, I have a funny confession. My wife and I moved to the U.S. in 2023. I collected a loan in the U.S. using my house there as collateral. She divorced me and got the house. I had already moved the money to offshore trusts. The repayment of the loan starts this year.”
“I’m not repaying the loan, so that house will be seized and repossessed by the bank by August this year. She’s going to be homeless and stranded. I’m back in Nigeria enjoying the money. Clap hand for Jesus.”
The post has since gone viral, drawing harsh criticism from users who condemned his actions as heartless and deceitful. Many are calling for legal consequences and questioning how financial institutions and courts can better detect and prevent such manipulation in cross-border cases.

@tessychrix46: “So ur wife didn’t know u collected a loan and you used ur house as collateral?? Like u guys don’t communicate or make plans together?”
@ibari__: “He is a very wicked man. Why will he subject her to such and everlasting trauma.”
@PaulPositive4: “This story no add up. You moved to the US 2023 and you already own a house? Did you buy in cash? If not, how can the bank repossess a house you’ve not completed its mortgage.”
@Linda_dadiva1: “So what happens to his credit score? It will evaporate? This is not a smart move mehn. Joke is on him.”
@VinnyCongr80394: “But come to think of it how did he get a house within two years in the USA like personal house the story is not adding up smart man though a big win for him if it is true.”
@frank_uriah: “During the process of divorce they didn’t discover that the house was use for collateral, you credit scores, your liabilities? This story is not adding up at all.”
