Veteran American singer Janet Jackson has shared a heartfelt and modest reflection on her career, stating she doesn’t consider herself a musical icon—even while accepting an award that says otherwise.
The That’s The Way Love Goes singer made the statement while receiving the Icon Award at the 51st annual American Music Awards, which took place on May 26, 2025, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
In her acceptance speech, Janet expressed that neither she nor her famous family, including the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, ever aspired to be famous. Rather, their shared passion for music, dance, and performance was always rooted in love, not the pursuit of celebrity.
“I don’t consider myself to be an icon. My family, myself- our dreams were never to be famous. We weren’t raised like that. We always had special love for music, dancing and singing.
“Fame came with the result of hard work and dedication,” she expressed
The Jackson family, originally from Gary, Indiana, is one of the most influential musical families in history. Several siblings found individual success, with the Jackson 5 paving the way for both Michael and Janet to launch groundbreaking solo careers.
