French President Emmanuel Macron was seemingly slapped in the face by his wife Brigitte aboard the presidential plane just before landing in Vietnam on Monday, as he began a diplomatic tour of Southeast Asia.
In the viral footage, Macron is seen talking to Brigitte near the plane’s exit when she suddenly appears to strike him across the mouth. He looks surprised but quickly recovers and waves to the media.
As they disembarked, Macron offered his arm, which Brigitte declined, opting to hold the stair railing instead.
Initially dismissed as fake, the video was later confirmed by the French presidential team, calling it “a little fun” between the couple.
The clip has reignited public debate over their unconventional relationship—Brigitte is 25 years Macron’s senior and was once his drama teacher.
