The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results are the best in over ten years, despite technical issues that caused a nationwide resit for some candidates.
Performance data released by the Board on Sunday, after the mop-up exam, shows that 2025 has the highest number of high scores since the Computer-Based Test (CBT) was introduced in 2013.
This year, 17,025 candidates, or 0.88% of those who took the UTME, scored 300 and above, more than doubling the 8,401 candidates (0.46%) who achieved that in 2024, and tripling the 5,318 (0.35%) from 2023.
Score Range 2023 2024 2025
300 and above 5,318 (0.35%) 8,401 (0.46%) 17,025 (0.88%)
250 and above 56,736 (3.73%) 77,070 (4.18%) 117,373 (6.08%)
200 and above 355,689 (23.36%) 439,961 (24%) 565,988 (29.3%)
These figures were released amid public concern over significant technical problems during the 2025 UTME, which affected testing at over 150 centres. JAMB acknowledged that nearly 380,000 candidates were impacted and arranged a resit exam starting May 16.
Despite these challenges, JAMB asserts that this year’s results indicate a significant improvement in student readiness and exam integrity.
