Popular skit maker and Nollywood actress Lizzy Jay has opened up about the surprising way she ventured into comedy, revealing that it all began as a way to pass time.
Speaking in a recent interview on Nollywood On Radio, Lizzy Jay explained that her initial dreams were to become a medical doctor or a singer. However, during a period when she was often home alone with little to do, she started creating short comedy skits on her phone purely out of boredom.
To her surprise, one of her skits quickly went viral after being reposted by several celebrities, including renowned actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. That moment marked a turning point in her life.
Realizing the reach and potential of her content, Lizzy Jay decided to take skit making seriously, which eventually brought her widespread recognition in the entertainment industry.
Her success in comedy opened doors in Nollywood, where she has since featured in several films such as Dear Affy, Dubara, and The Order of Things.
She said: , “Nothing was on my mind when I started making skit; what was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor.
“So skit making was a way of killing boredom. I was home alone, had my phone and I needed to do something.
“It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy. I was just bored, and I started making a skit.
“I knew my skit was beyond just a boredom killer after one of my skits, which I posted on my page on Facebook, was reposted by several celebrities including Omotola Jolade on Instagram. So, at the point I just thought I need to continue what I started,” she said.
