A tragic event in Warri, Delta State, has once again highlighted the potential dangers of online dating after a young woman named Brenda died under unclear circumstances following a visit to a man she met on TikTok.

Reports reveal that Brenda had been chatting for three days with a TikTok user known as Emmypounds before she accepted his invitation to spend the night at his apartment on Jakpa Road.

Concerns arose among Brenda’s family and friends when she became unreachable for several days. A close friend, who accessed Brenda’s TikTok messages via another device, discovered she had gone to meet Emmypounds, sparking a frantic search for her.

When contacted by the family, Emmypounds claimed that Brenda had fallen ill and was hospitalized. Eventually, Brenda was found in critical condition — unconscious, with visible bruises, unable to speak, and wearing adult diapers due to loss of bladder and bowel control. Sadly, she later passed away without revealing details of what had happened.

Emmypounds was arrested and interrogated by the police. He denied any foul play, stating they had shared a room, and he found her condition worsening upon waking.

Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the case is not being treated as murder at this time. Initial investigations suggest Brenda’s death may have been caused by inhaling generator fumes. Edafe added that Emmypounds also showed signs of exposure to the fumes and was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment.

Brenda has been laid to rest while police investigations into the incident continue. The case has reignited discussions about the risks of meeting strangers through social media platforms.
