Veteran Nollywood producer Ayebo Yemi Solomon has expressed disappointment over being left out by rapper Olamide, whose track Yemi Lover was inspired by Solomon’s legendary film, Yemi My Lover.

Speaking in a recent interview, Solomon shared his mixed emotions about the song. While he appreciated the nod to his work, he was disheartened by the lack of direct contact from the music star.

“Olamide didn’t call me when he released the song. I was happy, but not happy. When the video dropped, I was expecting a call, at least a feature. I tried to see him, but it didn’t work,” he said.

The filmmaker also opened up about the challenges he’s faced financially over the years, blaming piracy for the decline of his career. He revealed that although he distributed Yemi My Lover himself, piracy took a massive toll.

“I didn’t make money from Yemi My Lover. Pirates waged war against me. They were printing the movie jackets anyhow. I invested N50,000 to N60,000, but I didn’t earn much back,” he explained.

Solomon said that out of the more than 17 movies he has produced, almost all were pirated, leaving him in financial ruin.

“90 per cent of the money went to pirates. They are a curse to me. I ran into debt and even sold my land in Ajah to survive,” he revealed.

Despite being a trailblazer in Yoruba romantic storytelling, Solomon admitted that he still struggles to make ends meet and doesn’t own a home.

“Things are not easy. I’m broke. I only managed to get a car, some cameras, and an office. That’s all,” he added.
