Patience Faka Jonathan, the former First Lady, has declared her decision not to return to Aso Rock Villa. Instead, she will join forces with the current First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, to campaign for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
During an event in Abuja on Saturday night, where she was honored with the Women Icon Leader of the Year award by Accolade Dynamics Limited, Patience highlighted the significance of rotational leadership in fostering national unity.
“I believe in one president,” she said. “I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back—so that the country can move forward.”
While recognizing Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of President Bola Tinubu and the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Patience reaffirmed her steadfast support for the current administration and for women in Nigeria.
“I was supposed to call her first, but I saved her for last: the daughter of our wonderful President, the President of Nigeria, the one and only we believe in — President Bola Tinubu,” she said. “Iyaloja, thank you for standing with women because these are your women. Carry them along; they are with you.
“All the way, we are with you. No shaking. We will follow. Direct us, and we will follow.”
Patience Jonathan also spoke fondly of her longstanding relationship with Remi Tinubu, noting that their bond started long before their time in Aso Rock and remains strong.
The former First Lady, known for her outspoken nature, emphasized that her support is firmly behind the current leadership.
“I am outspoken—If I don’t like something, I will say it. But if I like something, I die for it,” she added.
