“You’re not smart if your wife takes your property after divorce” – Nigerian lawyer tells men –

  • Nigerian lawyer Samuel Gift Onyinye Ola has sparked social media reactions by providing advice on how to legally protect property from wives in divorce.

A Nigerian lawyer, Samuel Gift Onyinye Ola, has sparked a wave of mixed reactions on social media following her legal advice to men on safeguarding their assets in the event of a divorce.

In a Facebook post dated Wednesday, April 23, Onyinye suggested that men who lose property to their wives during divorce proceedings did not adequately prepare for such a situation.

She recommended that men consider setting up an irrevocable trust and registering assets in the names of their children as a proactive step to protect their wealth from being split during marital separation.

“If a woman divorces you and takes part of your property, it means you’re not smart as a man,”she wrote. “There’s something called irrevocable TRUST. Register in the name of your kids, it ceases to be part of a marriage property.”

“The only exception to this could be Timing. If you run to “the trust” during your time of divorce, it will not be honored , it becomes a malicious step,” she added. “If the trust was established BEFORE the marriage, it is more likely to be viewed as separate property. If it was created during the marriage, it may be subject to division.”

Her post triggered a broad spectrum of reactions, with some praising her for offering practical legal insight, while others criticized the suggestion as potentially manipulative and unfair to spouses.
