The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored power to most of Bayelsa State after a four-month outage, thanks to efforts from the Port Harcourt region. This area includes Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers states, and they faced many obstacles along the way.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, General Manager, Emmanuel Anyaegbulem announced the restoration of electricity and highlighted the company’s progress in 2024. He explained that the extended power cut was due to vandalism, with around 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilovolt (KV) lines being damaged on July 29.
“The 132KV line is the sole transmission line supplying electricity to Bayelsa State,” he stated.
“Repairing the collapsed towers was a major challenge, as the blackout lasted from July 29 until November 30, when the lines were finally restored.”
He stated that constructing one transmission tower costs roughly N13 million. The General Manager reported that security efforts have been successful.
