Neymar’s injury duration confirmed after fresh hamstring strain in 100th Santos appearance

Brazilian forward Neymar is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during Santos’ 2-0 win over Atletico Mineiro on Thursday.

The 32-year-old, who was making his 100th appearance for Santos, was forced off in the 34th minute, bringing an abrupt end to what was meant to be a milestone occasion.

ESPN reports that the injury, while serious, does not affect the same muscle previously damaged during his time with Al-Hilal.

This latest setback comes amid a string of injury issues for Neymar, who missed most of the 2023/24 season due to an ACL tear sustained last October.

The recurrence of muscular problems continues to cast a shadow over his attempts to revive his career with Santos.

Neymar had returned to his boyhood club to aid their push for redemption following relegation in 2023.

With Santos having picked up just four points from their opening four fixtures in the Brazilian Serie A, his absence presents a blow to their early-season ambitions.

The club will now proceed with caution in his rehabilitation, with hopes that he will return in time to play a significant role in the remainder of the campaign.
