Tensions Rise As VeryDarkman Slams Reuben Abati Over On-Air Clash With Arise TV Anchor Ojy Okpe –

  • VeryDarkMan warns veteran journalist Reuben Abati on social media.
  • VDM condemns Abati’s confrontation with journalist Ojinika “Ojy” Okpe from Arise TV.
  • Tensions arise between VDM and Abati, a former media adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Popular Nigerian activist, VeryDarkMan, also known as VDM, has taken to social media to issue a stern warning to veteran journalist Reuben Abati. The activist condemned Abati’s recent confrontation with fellow journalist Ojinika “Ojy” Okpe, an anchor on Arise TV.

Currently, tensions are high between the activist and Reuben Abati, a former media adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. VeryDarkMan accused Abati of tribal bias, particularly for siding with Abike Dabiri in the ongoing controversy surrounding the trafficking of underage Nigerian girls in Ivory Coast.

In response, Abati appeared to dismiss VeryDarkMan, comparing him to controversial Nigerian singer Portable—a jab that clearly struck a nerve. VDM fired back by recalling Abati’s alleged involvement in a 2016 corruption scandal. He claimed Abati was detained by the EFCC over financial mismanagement during the Jonathan administration, alongside figures such as Femi Fani-Kayode and Musiliu Obanikoro.

In a related development, a video has surfaced showing Abati in a heated exchange with his co-anchor, Ojy Okpe, during a live broadcast of The Morning Show on Arise News. The show, which typically focuses on politics and social issues, became the center of controversy after Abati’s aggressive tone toward Okpe sparked public backlash.

VeryDarkMan publicly criticized Abati’s conduct, describing it as disrespectful and unprofessional. He commended Ojy Okpe for her composed and graceful response despite the tense moment on air. The activist warned that if such behavior repeats, he would campaign for Abati’s removal from the network, questioning the journalist’s credibility due to past controversies.

In a lighter tone, VDM also praised Ojy Okpe’s elegance and journalistic professionalism. Born Ojinika Anne Egwuenu in Enugu, Nigeria, Okpe later moved to the U.S., where she earned a degree in Communications from Seton Hall University, New Jersey.

Previously married to Austin Okpe, with whom she shares two children, Ojy has also built a solid reputation in both media and social circles. She is known for her connections with high-profile Nigerian personalities, including actress Genevieve Nnaji and model Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi.
