An X user, identified as Maleek Oyibo, has recounted how the Nigerian Police took possession of the money belonging to a client.
He made this revelation on X, in response to an interview granted by Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK Conservative Party, where she said that the Nigerian Police rob the citizens, including her brother, stealing his shoes and watch.
Maleek, however, narrated that he and his team were sending N3million cash to a client, when the police stopped them.
He stated that after taking them to the station where they answered series of questions, proving the legitimacy of the cash, the officer asked them to forfeit part of the cash.
According to him, the officer claimed that “the money don get accident” and stated that they cannot get the whole sum back.
After much back and forth, the officers took N250,000 from the money.
He stated, “About 2 months ago,the Police took possession of some money we were sending to a client, 3 million naira in cash.
When we got to the station, after answering series of questions to prove legitimacy of the cash, the officer asked how much we were willing to forfeit, in his words “Because the money don get accident” and we cannot get the whole sum back.
It took 3 days before they agreed to collect N250,000.
“Exact day,
24.10.2024.
“For people asking why I didn’t escalate this, an AIG was aware of this money. They took us to the office of the AIG, but they spoke in Igbo. Not sure what they discussed, but welp, it obvious you people underestimate the ability of the police to twist every case.
“The reason they held us hostage was because the cash was in New Notes.
They started saying they needed to involve the EFCC, it is money laundering, why are we doing cash transactions, we are selling money.
“Plenty long talks, client was also very worried and needed the cash Asap. No long talk, we had to bulge.”
