We are sorry- Presidency Addresses Error in Revised Federal Appointment List –

The Presidency has apologized for mistakes found in the recent federal appointments list from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This list was intended to address rising claims of favoritism and showed how appointments were distributed across different regions.

However, it caused a stir when critics pointed out that some notable individuals, such as the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, were missing from the list.

Opposition figures, including Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South, accused President Tinubu of breaching the federal character principle, which requires fair distribution of political roles among the country’s regions.

In a recent interview with Arise Television, Ndume expressed concerns about the fairness of the appointments, suggesting they favored the President’s ethnic group.

In response, the Presidency provided a breakdown of appointments by geopolitical zones, revealing that the South West, Tinubu’s home region, had the most appointees with 29.

Other regions included the North West with 35, South South with 22, South East with 16, North Central with 25, and North East with 24.

Despite this attempt to show regional balance, critics noted the list was still lacking, especially with Gbajabiamila’s absence, raising further worries about regional representation, particularly for the South East, which had fewer appointees. As the list circulated on social media, Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, apologized on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging the mistakes and promising an updated list soon.

“We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later. Thank you,” Dare said in his statement.

However, he did not provide any explanation for why Gbajabiamila’s name was left off the list.
