Nigerian actor Chimezie Imo has opened up about how his outspoken personality has influenced his career in the entertainment industry.

In an interview with Chude, Imo shared his surprise whenever he receives positive feedback about his work, acknowledging that he often feels people may perceive him as problematic due to his advocacy for others.

He recalled an experience with the cast of Shuga, where one of the directors refused to direct unless he was part of the cast. Despite being initially surprised by the director’s decision, he felt that his strong voice for justice had caused others to view him in a negative light.

“I’m very vocal so I always feel people think I’m problematic. I fight for people and I think I need to stop that because it has put me into trouble. When I see someone being disrespected I don’t know how to let it go.” he explained.

Imo mentioned that his tendency to stand up for others, especially in situations where they are being mistreated, has sometimes resulted in friction with producers and colleagues. He elaborated on his unwillingness to remain silent, saying, “If I’m a lead and a sub lead is eating less than me, I’m asking why.”

He acknowledged that his vocal nature has occasionally caused tension, adding, “I know it’s none of my business and all, maybe it’s something I need to work on. it has backfired a lot of times that’s why I’m always surprised to hear the feedback. I’m not the producer’s favorite but I’m the director’s favorite”.

Imo’s comments highlight his ongoing struggle to balance his advocacy with the demands of his career.
