Leicester eye Russell Martin as successor to under-fire Van Nistelrooy

Leicester City are weighing up a move for former Southampton boss Russell Martin to replace under-fire head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The club’s hierarchy are reportdely preparing for a potential managerial change ahead of next season.

Van Nistelrooy, appointed in November to steady the ship after Steve Cooper’s departure, has overseen a dismal run of form, with the Foxes recording just one Premier League win in 2025.

While the Dutchman remains liked by some within the boardroom, others are pushing for a reset as Leicester fight for survival and plan for the long-term.

Martin, 39, was sacked by Southampton despite strong performances in the Championship earlier this season.

His commitment to a possession-based style has drawn admiration at the King Power, particularly given the club’s recent promotion under Enzo Maresca using a similar approach.
