Manchester City suffer 2-0 defeat to Juventus in Champions League blow

Manchester City’s Champions League hopes hang by a thread after a 2-0 loss to Juventus in Turin, on Wednesday night.

The result leaves Pep Guardiola’s men facing the prospect of an early exit from the competition.

Both teams entered the match amid a poor run of form, and a sluggish first half yielded little action, with only one shot on target apiece.

However, the game came alive in the second half when Juventus broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute.

Dusan Vlahovic’s header seemed harmless, but a critical error by City goalkeeper Ederson allowed the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.

City dominated possession thereafter, pushing Juventus deep into their own half, but they failed to capitalize on their chances.

The visitors were punished again in the 78th minute when Weston McKennie sealed the victory for Juve with a stunning volley, capping off a quick counterattack.

The defeat leaves Manchester City with just one win in their group stage campaign, putting their qualification hopes in serious jeopardy.

Guardiola’s side will need a strong response in their remaining fixtures to avoid a premature exit.
