Nigerian rapper Lanre Dabiri, known as Eldee The Don, shared his influence on Grammy-winning artist Wizkid’s early career.
During an appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee explained that he encouraged Wizkid to pursue afrobeats.
He noted that when Wizkid joined EME record label, he was more interested in Reggae and Dancehall, but Eldee suggested he focus on music with Nigerian roots. In his words:
“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it.”
Eldee The Don, who moved overseas some time ago, mentioned that Wizkid listened to his advice and began creating Afropop tracks like ‘Don’t Dull,’ which helped him gain significant recognition.
