Enzo Maresca teases Cucurella after Spurs error, insists Chelsea are not in title race

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca couldn’t resist a playful jab at Marc Cucurella after the defender’s costly slips in the Blues’ thrilling 4-3 comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Cucurella’s two early errors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Spurs race to a two-goal lead, but Chelsea turned the game around with goals from Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez, and a Cole Palmer brace.

Addressing the media after the match, Maresca humorously remarked:
“Arsenal, City, and Liverpool probably don’t slide… like Marc Cucurella did!”

However, the Italian quickly shifted to a serious tone, emphasizing Chelsea’s current developmental phase.

He said: “To be serious, we are not ready, we are far from these teams. We focus on the day-by-day and trying to improve the team.”

Despite the defensive blunders, Chelsea showed strong spirit, keeping them competitive in the domestic league.

The Blues, who have been strong in the Europa Conference League, will next face Kazakh side Astana on December 12.
