Arsenal held by Fulham as title push stalls


Arsenal missed a chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool, settling for a 1-1 draw against a Fulham.

Despite dominating possession, the Gunners struggled to break down Fulham’s defense at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

They also saw a potential late winner ruled out by VAR.

Fulham struck first in the 15th minute when Kenny Tete’s incisive pass found Raul Jimenez, who finished past Aaron Ramsdale after slipping behind Jakub Kiwior.

Arsenal responded with heavy pressure but failed to capitalize, with Bukayo Saka’s close-range shot being the most notable chance of the first half.

The equalizer came early in the second half through a set piece.

William Saliba was on hand to deflect Kai Havertz’s header into the net after Declan Rice’s pinpoint corner.

Arsenal continued to push for a winner, with Thomas Partey squandering a golden opportunity to secure the lead.

In stoppage time, Saka seemed to have headed the Gunners ahead, only for VAR to disallow the goal due to Gabriel Martinelli’s offside position in the buildup.

The result leaves Arsenal six points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
